Meet Tom
At 76 years old, Dover, MA based rider Tom Bielski proves that passion for the trail only grows stronger with time. With over 35 years of mountain-biking experience, Tom still rides several times a week, hitting local favorites like Hale Reservation, Adam’s Farm, and trails across Southern New Hampshire and Green Woodlands.
His Bike
- Model: PowerLine 840
- Color: Ruby Red Crystal
- Ownership: 4 months
- Mileage: ≈ 390 miles
Tom’s PowerLine 840 replaced his Intense Tazer eMTB — a solid bike in its own right — but one that left him wanting a bit more power, range, and comfort on rough terrain.
“Karbon owners were explaining their bikes to me and talking about the personal attention given to each customer. Locally owned, built the way I wanted — not an off-the-floor bike.”
First Impressions
Trying a demo bike sealed the deal.
“The suspension along with the motor performance was a real eye-opener. I was moving considerably faster through sections — and with better control — than ever before.”
A few small positioning tweaks later, the bike felt instantly familiar.
On-Trail Performance
Tom’s PowerLine 840 is equipped with a RockShox Zeb Ultimate fork, Super Deluxe Ultimate shock, Magura MT7 brakes, and a SRAM X01 drivetrain — a high-end setup that rewards confident riding.
“The fork and shock perform really well. I’m pushing through sections faster, more confidently, and with less fatigue.”
“The bike climbs and descends extremely well. The frame stays planted, the steering is quick, and the motor delivers a nice low-end punch out of tight corners.”
He typically rides 10–14 miles per outing on mixed terrain, often pushing further than before thanks to the larger battery and smooth power delivery of the Bafang M510 motor.
Ride Quality & Build
“I saw the bike being assembled and know the time and attention given to the build. Nothing has come loose — that speaks to the quality. The paint work really makes the bike stand out.”
After nearly 400 miles, the bike has remained flawless:
- The Karbon Enduro wheels are still perfectly true.
- Bearings at every pivot keep things quiet and smooth.
- No component issues or loose hardware to date.
Confidence & Endurance
“Yes to both — I ride longer, more frequently, and tackle more challenging terrain. The large battery removed any distance concerns.”
Switching from a 60 Nm motor to the M510’s 95 Nm output has been a revelation:
“Rides are more fun, more challenging, and longer.”
Engineering & Open Platform
Tom appreciates how Karbon partners with top-quality suppliers who bring deep engineering resources and manufacturing expertise to every frame and component.
“Watching some of my bike’s assembly, I could see the quality. I’d put it up against any established brand — this frame is built to last.”
He also values Karbon’s open-platform philosophy:
“It helps knowing replacement parts are easy to get. The parts spec, motor performance, and full carbon frame — there’s nothing else that comes close.”
Value & Ownership
“One of the main reasons I bought the bike is the great after-purchase support.”
“I love taking care of my bikes — clean, lube, and check. The bike has been fantastic.”
Final Thoughts
“Do yourself a favor — check them out on the web and demo one. You won’t be disappointed.”
“I’ve loved mountain biking for years; this bike has enhanced my enjoyment and I’m riding more than ever.”
